The PCL net will take that night off...then, our final 3 holidays will be for the weeks of Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years. The year is going by way too fast!! I hope the hot weather folks are happy. All of Arkansas is under Heat Advisories or Extreme Heat Warnings into next week. I have to wonder if this steamy summer, means a wild winter. I hope that slightly cooler weather will arrive by August 9 for the Shreveport Hamfest. Besides my getting out of the house, I can get some good eatings at a catfish place nearby, and have a bunch of eyeball QSO's. I have to print up some train net tickets to go with my Conductor's outfit. My first 2 new nets with QCWA did pretty good, including requested courtesy checks. I'll just run them twice a month, due to square dance commitments. I was working on items earlier in the day for the next square dance publication issue that I'll release on Sunday evening. I'm set up on AmateurWire and HamsOverIP, but just for voice mail so far. But, I like the idea of not having to give out your home phone number over the air...as only licensed hams can contact you. I talked to my house insurance folks today. I raised some deductibles, and may save a little bit of money. But, I'll get a final amount when I talk to the agent on Aug. 14. I've been on a diet of tuna salad sandwiches on wheat bread, with sweet honey BBQ sauce, and the flavors of deli style, bacon ranch, lemon pepper, herb and garlic, hickory smoke, and honey barbecue...so that gives me variety. Unfortunately, it looks like I'm back to the PB&J regimen next month (sigh!). I trimmed my beard and moustache last night with my portable razor, as I couldn't wait to get to Great Clips for it...plus getting hair with my food was not ideal. :P I need a haircut badly, but finances will only let me do that in December. I hope Santa will put a Shark M1KE in my Christmas stocking, but I may have jinxed things when I told him to "Define Naughty" (hi hi). I downloaded a new version of RMS Express for Winlink 2000. I rarely get email in there, but it's another contact method. GE Bob, how was your week?? >>> ** NS2B: GE All. Well it finally cooled off a little bit here. Was down at the track Saturday flagging for the Porsche Club of America, actually had to put a jacket on for the morning session! No worries, heat indexes of 100 expected by Wednesday! I got my IP phone switched off of Hamshack Hotline and over to Hams Over IP. It was pretty easy. Glenn: thanks for the info on the 70cm comments. I plagiarized your message and sent my comments in. Not much new on the radio front. Waiting to hear from the shop regarding what ailments my Alinco might have. And that's about it for me - BTU Daryl >>> ** N5VLZ: Bob, FB on the flagging at the track, and for the HamsOverIP switch. I heard comments on the 70cm deal from another ham. I hope your Alinco rig isn't too badly messed up. GE, Carl, how was your week?? >>> ** KX4AC: GE All. Sorry about the finances, Daryl. I just got back from Dillons KC BBQ place ... I wish I could squeeze the leftovers through the wire for you. I got a FM deviation meter off Ebay that I am fixing up. Looks like it will be OK, but there is some battery leakage damage that needs fixing. Got it cleaned up over the weekend, and sent out a Digikey order for a couple of parts that I don't have proper replacements for in my junkbox. I want to get it working and see if I can optimize my packet station. Spent a little time on 20m over the weekend. The band seemed not too bad. I caught a couple of SSTV transmissions, and was trying to see if I could decode any of the other digital modes I heard ... but there are so many choices in fldigi that I get baffled. SSTV I can hear right away, but the others (except FT8) I just can't figure out. We have a sick kitty here, and it looks like the diagnosis might not be good. We left her for some tests, and will pick here up in an hour or two. She is in pain, and we are bracing for the worst. She is 13-14 years old. Speaking of OLD, I turn 70 on Wednesday. Not sure how I feel about that. I guess that's about it for now. Back to net >>> ** N5VLZ: Carl, first, Happy Birthday...we're all getting up there. Second, sorry to hear about the sick kitty...been there, done that, on having to have pets put down, as they're part of your family. I don't mess with EBay or Etsy...I just bought a keychain light and a dozen pairs of tube socks from Amazon...they'll be here Wednesday...my lawn man, along with Terminix for a rodent exclusion check, will be here tomorrow. There are so many digital modes, it's easy to be overwhelmed. GE, Rick...how was your week?? >>> ** VA7RBP: GE Daryl and all on the NET! I haven't been up to much the past few weeks, nothing exciting to report on the radio front. The hot weather kept me indoors, sun isn't good for the skin. The last couple of days have been cooler, and today we had a bunch of rain...nice for a change! 40M and 20M PACTOR in the mornings has been really poor, so I end up shutting down around noon, and mostly read. We are getting ready to head for Kelowna this weekend, Arlene has knee replacment surgery next Monday, then the fun starts... I'll be her slave for at least the next month... OH WAIT, I'm already her slave...hihi. Well, that's about all I have so BTU Daryl >>> ** N5VLZ: Rick, she's the Queen, and you're just her humble servant. ** VA7RBP: Jester is the word your looking for... ** N5VLZ: Rick, really. GE Rosti, you'll be after Glenn. I hope all goes well with Arlene's surgery and the recovery. We may not see any rain here for another 2 weeks. GE Bob (OK). I saw where a group from North Texas put up the funds to keep the Heartland Flyer going through September, 2026. The $4 million of the Texas portion actually gets $28 million total, for all of the communities that are served. How was your week?? >>> ** KF5TVG: GE Daryl and all on the net! Dittos on Arlene's knee surgery! Daryl, I heard the Hearland Flyer's life had been extended... I need to get serious about taking it from here in Norman to Ft Worth and see son and his kids. Thanks to the group for the heads up about Hams over IP; I need to look into switching over to that from HH. Made some progress (finally!) in connecting meshtastic to a mqtt broker under ha (home assistant). My goal was to use ha to log/monitor battery, external vhf/uhf transmitter heatsink temperature, and various other parameters from outside the mesh network, but use the mesh as the transport vehicle. An example of where this might be useful is where a club has a repeater up on somebody else's tower, with very limited access. It would be nice to be able to monitor the health of the repeater on a regular basis, without having to put eyes on it. Mostly an exercise for me, but perhaps others might find it useful down the road. That's all for now. BTU Daryl>>> ** N5VLZ: Bob, if I could get some funding, I'd like to do a weekend trip to the DFW area. I know that there's a Subway restaurant inside the depot at Fort Worth. The setup on HamsOverIP and AmateurWire was easier than I thought. FB on the meshtastic and mqtt deal...hope you can get that to work. GE Scott, how was your week?? >>> ** K0WAV: GE Daryl and all on the net. Well, it has been hot here, as you noted. I have to go out before 8am and back in before 12noon or risked melting. hahaha. But, that just means afternoons are "play radio time". Been playing with the lates "fork" of JS8Call 2.3.1. It was has the involvement of the creator so "official" just a few cosmetic changes, but under the hood, they removed all the old Fortran Code dependance; which is good, but also personally sad being and old IT that actually used Fortran. Best wish on the Knee operation, and the kitty issues. I have a 21 year old cat that is just determined to hang around to spite me! hahaha no, he is a good cat; we just keeping a watch out to make sure he is not suffering any. hope all have a great week and BTU >>> ** N5VLZ: Scott, best way to beat the heat is stay inside and "play radio". FB on the KS9Call software. There is a Facebook group called Cats And Radios. GE Glenn...how was your week?? >>> ** N3MEL: Hello all, final things appear to be working here this week. I have have been having problems with BPQ since I had to rebuild my station a month or so ago. I have been taking a little break from ham radio. The silence on the local repeaters, and nothing but beacons on most digital modes. I had Allstar on the last 4 days while away camping and heard only one qso. Anyway did get switched over to HamsoverIp but have not set up the phone here yet. Good luck with the knee replacement. I have been there, done that x2, back in Nov. Nothing more here from so back to you Daryl>>> ** Glenn, most repeaters are quiet now, except for during nets. GL on getting the BPQ issue fixed. I haven't yet made a list of contacts for either HamsOverIP or for AmateurWire yet. It has been nearly a year and a half for me, since my left hip replacement surgery. GE Rosti...how was your week?? >>> ** KC3FQF: GE Daryl and all on the net! Sorry little late, and thank you Glenn for Node usage I had fun Saturday participating in Appalachian Trail Golden Packet event. It was my first time, and I was at Port Clinton PA 1500ft up. 16 operators connected 2200+miles using AX.25 After it was over at 2pm, I continued doing POTA, and got 98 CW qsos before going home. Fun Saturday. BTU Daryl ** Rosti, FB on the Appalachian Trail Golden Packet event, and for 98 CW QSO's with POTA. That's it for round 1...back to the top for final comments. Bob (NY), thanks for the use of the BBS...anything else?? >>> ** NS2B: Nothing more here - everyone have a good week - 73 >>> ** N5VLZ: Thanks for being here, Bob (NY)...see you next week. Carl, anything else?? >>> ** KX4AC: Nothing else from me tonight. 73s to all >>> ** N5VLZ: Thanks for being here, Carl...catch you down the log. Rick, anything else?? >>> ** VA7RBP: That's it for me as well. Everyone have a great week, stay well, 73 forn. BTU Daryl >>> ** Thanks for being here, Rick. Hope Arlene's surgery goes well. Bob (OK), anything else?? >>> ** KF5TVG: Nothing else. Thanks to you and Bob(NY) for making the net happen 73! >>> ** N5VLZ: Thanks for being here, Bob (OK)...see you next time. Scott, anything else?? >>> ** K0WAV: Nothing further from here. Everyone have a great week! BTU >>> ** N5VLZ: Scott, thanks for being here...have a good week. Glenn, anything else?? >>> ** N3MEL: No problem, Rosti -- was glad to see the system being used. Bob(NY) for the private message mistake today! 73 all till next week! ** N5VLZ: Thanks for being here Glenn...see you next time. Rosti, anything else?? >>> ** KC3FQF: Thank you Daryl for running net Nothing else from me tonight. 73s to all >>> ** N5VLZ: Thanks for being here, Rosti...have a good week. That will do it for tonight's PCL Net. I'll post the log either later tonight or Tuesday morning. Everyone stay safe, healthy, weather aware, radio active, and on the cool side of the door!! 73 and GN DE N5VLZ -- the net is now closed. >>> ** Daryl Stout, N5VLZ, Little Rock, Arkansas Please see my QRZ bio for more information.
