Hope no one got pinched if they didn't wear green; my wallet was pinched shut, as it had no green in it (hi hi). No early checkins. Net order is Daryl, Chuck, Bob (NY), Rick, Larry, Bob (OK), Glenn, Jason, and whoever else shows up. Our next net holiday is April 21 (Easter is late this year on April 20)...the net will take that night off. ** N5VLZ: Severe weather rocked the Arklatex and the Arklamiss regions Friday through Saturday, with dust storms and wildfires to our west, and blizzard warnings up in Minnesota. They have noted at least 10 tornadoes in Arkansas, and at least 3 fatalities. We may have more severe weather on Sunday, but it appears the weather will be quiet for my 65th birthday on Saturday. However, I doubt I'll be doing much of anything, except computer work for ham radio, square dancing, and my BBS. My VE Team at the University Of Arkansas At Little Rock did a license exam session this past Saturday. We had 6 VE's, plus 3 candidates...and all 3 passed their Tech exams...a 12 year old boy, plus a father and his son. I'm not sure who was more happy...the examinees or the VE Team. I scanned in and sent the data to ARRL/VEC earlier today, and had to make a bank run to put the cash in there...and also a PO Box Run to get my other QCWA Badge, as I thought I had lost the original one (now I have 2 of them). My ADT Alarm System bought the farm with the battery going bad (again). I called and told them I have had so many problems with their batteries, which activate if there's a power failure. The problem is, the batteries don't recognize when power is restored. I told them that I could not afford to pay the service fee, being on a fixed income, and I was about ready to go ahead and terminate my service with them, and go to another local alarm company. It is as if loyalty (being with ADT nearly 20 years) doesn't mean squat. They are supposed to be by in the morning...we will see if I stay with them, or go elsewhere. I'm on a diabetic starvation diet...2 peanut butter sandwiches a day, as I can not afford much else right now. I'm losing weight, but I'm getting burned out on it. I had to cancel 2 medical appointments, as the HMO transportation deal drivers never showed up. So, I have to pay to take Lyft to medical appointments. The planned trip to Wichita in May had to be canceled, due to finances and other issues. I hope I can rebook the trip later this year. I still plan to go to the Shreveport, LA and Albuquerque, NM, hamfests. Those likely will be my last travel trip vacations, as my health is getting to the point where it's too hard to travel. ** KA4FLA: I was out at hamcation this year for the first time ever -- loved it. I miss Florida really bad, that is my home QTH. Had some medical issues last few months some scars. Radio has been on the back burner for a while, need to get back into the swing of things. Radio is life, life is radio, it helps me out alot. I have to get back into promoting packet radio and get it growing again. I will be in St. Pete at the end of May. Back to net control. >>> ** N5VLZ: Chuck, glad you enjoyed hamcation. I'm originally from the Miami, Florida area (Hialeah, to be specific), but it'll be 48 years in Little Rock, Arkansas as of August 15. Glad you're getting back in the hobby. Let me restate the upcoming order...Bob (NY), Rick, Larry, (OK), Glenn, and Jason. I'll get others as they arrive. GE Bob (NY), how was your week?? >>> ** NS2B: GE All! Happy Birthday Daryl. An uneventful week. Got some more yard cleanup done and that was about it. 'Twas a really nice weekend, then turned cold again today. Haven't done much with radios lately. Updated the contact list in my DMR handheld and that was about all I did. That's it for me. BTU Daryl >>> ** N5VLZ: Bob (NY), thanks for the early birthday wishes. I got a coupon for a free buffet at Golden Corral with the purchase of 1, but I have no way to get there. So I guess I have to forget about that. They are saying we may see another frost and freeze later this week; folks are wanting to plant their gardens, but they may have to wait. FB on updating the DMR radio contacts. GE Charley, you'll be after Jason. GE Rick, how was your week?? >>> ** VA7RBP: GE Daryl and all on NET. It was my usual 40M and 20M PACTOR most morning, with a few tries at Robust Packet on 30M, 20M, 17M and 10M. I actually had a Packet connetion on my BPQ system this morning. 2M FM propagation has been poor this winter in the mountains. I've also been learning about 3D printing, and how hard it is to fine tune everything. Fortunately, I have lots of help there. Friday, I came down with a cold, and that wiped me out for the weekend, I'm still feeling really tired. Our weather had been up and down, with temps from 27F to 60F. Today, we had snow, rain and sunshine all at the same time...come on spring!! OK, that's about all I have so BTU Daryl >>> ** N5VLZ: Rick, FB on the packet work, and 3D printing help. Sorry to hear about the bad cold...hope you feel better. The weather has been crazy everywhere. GE Larry, welcome to the net...how was your week?? >>> ** K0LAI: GE all! This last week, I did some yard cleanup and some indoors spring cleaning. The biggest excietment is that our house in Colorado got a offer to buy. This forced us to negotiate a final price and deal all day Sunday. Our relator was on vacation in Germany, so that was an interesting situation. Thank goodness for texting. Temperatures have been up and down here. But my yard is finally snow and ice free. Other than that - I wil continue to spring clean indoors with some more yard cleanup. BTU Daryl >>> ** N5VLZ: Larry, spring is on the way...it was in the 70s here today. FB on getting a buyer for your house. GE Bob (OK)...been missing you on here...hope you're OK. How was your week?? >>> ** KF5TVG: GE Daryl and all on the NET! Glad to be here tonight; have been MIA for the last few weeks. Sadly, not much to report in the radio world. I updated a project from a few KF5TVG : years ago tha was written up in QEX mag in summer of 2020 by W3PM Gene Marcus. It's a WSPR xmitter, VFO, RF counter and a clock. Changed the way the user interface worked from 5 buttons to a rotary encoder. Makes more sense to me. YMMV It looked nice enough to make a case instead of the small cardboard box I used initially. Designed it using TinkerCAD and made posts internally for mounting knob, display, RTC, etc. That way, no screwheads on the outside for each item. Winds were terrible last Friday, such that the skies were brown and the air smelled like dirt. What I imagined the dust bowl days of the 1930s were like. Wildfires in numerous places and even our Governor's rural weekend place burned to the ground. That's all from central OK, so back to you Daryl >>> ** N5VLZ: Bob (OK), first, glad to have you back with us. FB on the updating of the radio project. There were terrible chain reaction wrecks in KS and TX with the dust storms. A wildfire was NW of Little Rock today, and despite the controlled burns being done previously, some still get out of control...there were some evacuations. GE Jason...glad you made it back...how was your week?? >>> ** KF8APM: Oh not too bad. Sorry, I got disconnected there for a bit. The weather has been up and down, but that's good for us. We make maple syrup, and that type of weather gives us lots of sap to make the syrup. We have made close to 20 gallons this past week. Hopefully, we get another week like last. This is my first time joining this net, so hopefully I'm doing things right. ** N5VLZ: The only thing (and I should've told you), was that you type 3 greater than signs like >>> when you're done. FB on the maple syrup...now I want some pancakes (hi hi). GE Charley, how was your week?? >>> ** NT5R: GE everyone, Welcome Jason Resurrected Xeigu G90 hf rig and having fun with it. 20 watts and built in uner works well 31 to 79 degrees f here today, 79 a bit high from sun in afternoon Been doing some hf packet end fed antenna and 10 watts good coverage, wondering about Pactor, have an old KAM with that built in, never tried it Also playing with Btech UVPro, kiss tnc and aprs and gps, software sort of working So btu Daryl ** N5VLZ: Charley, FB on the Xeigu HF rig, and the weather. I still have an old MFJ 1270C TNC, with the computer cable and power supply, but no radio cable or radio for it. FB also on the other items and software. That's it for round 1...back to the top for final comments. ** NS2B: Did you forget Glenn? >>> ** N5VLZ: Yeah, I forgot Glenn...these old eyes are bad. Glenn, sorry about that...need to clean the glasses. How was your week?? >>> ** N3MEL: NP Daryl and Happy Birthday, I was thinking about you during the storms. GE to everyone on the net tonight as well. We are 48 hours in on this month's PKTNET packet net and already up to 53 check ins. Also been busy with the TPRFN network, it continues to grow, which is great Very nice to have an RF backbone up and operating on HF. That is it for Me btu Daryl >>> ** N5VLZ: Glenn, thanks for understanding, for the birthday wishes, and for thinking about us during the storms...we may do it again Sunday. FB on the PKTNET packet net and the TPRFN network. I guess I'll get 30 lashes with a Wet TNC cable for my birthday Saturday (hi hi). OK, that is everyone for round 1...back to the top for the 73 round. Chuck, hope you enjoyed the net...anything else?? >>> ** KA4FLA: 73 all >>> ** N5VLZ: Thanks for being here, Chuck. Bob (NY), thanks for correcting this old geezer (hi hi), and thanks for the BBS...anything else?? >>> ** NS2B: Nothing more here - everyone have a good week - 73 >>> ** N5VLZ: Thanks for being here, Bob...see you next week. Rick, anything else?? >>> ** VA7RBP: Nope, that's it for me. Everone have a great week, stay well, 73 until next time. BTU Daryl >>> ** N5VLZ: Thanks for being here, Rick...see you next time. Larry, anything else?? >>> ** K0LAI: No, everyone have a good week - 73 - BTU Daryl >>> ** N5VLZ: Thanks for being here, Larry...see you down the log. Bob (OK), anything else?? >>> KF5TVG: Sorry, I wandered off for a sec Nothing else. Hope you have a great birthday Daryl and btu>>> ** N5VLZ: Thanks, Bob. It'll be a lonely one...sure miss the XYL. Glenn, anything else?? >>> ** N3MEL: Thank you Daryl, have a good week and 73 to all.. >>> ** N5VLZ: Thanks for being here, Glenn...take care. Jason, anything else?? >>> KF8APM: Not much, just want to say thanks for letting me chat tonight. It was fun for my first time! 73 >>> ** N5VLZ: Glad you enjoyed it...come back when you can. Charley, you get to wrap things up tonight...anything else?? >>> ** NT5R: Hamfest Mt Vernon MO this coming Saturday Happy Birthday Daryl, enjoy your special day Always fun to type at you all Have an awesome week eveyone 73 >>> ** N5VLZ: Thanks for being here, Charley. I'll see what the week brings. Not happy about another possible severe weather deal on Sunday, but it's that time of year. Thanks to all for the birthday wishes...not sure if I'll get a chance to eat some cake or not...but I don't want to be like the woman who was diabetic, and overdid it on the cake. It shot her sugar to over 700, and she had to be rushed to the ER. The doctor walked in, and condescendingly asked "Have we been a bad girl??". I will post the scribe later tonight, as I have to prepare for another net. Everyone have a good week, stay safe, healthy, weather aware, and radio active. 73 and GN DE N5VLZ -- the net is now closed. ** VA7RBP : Happy Birthday Daryl ** N5VLZ: Thanks, Rick. ** Daryl Stout, N5VLZ, Little Rock, Arkansas Please see my QRZ bio for more information.
