N5VLZ:
GE All, and welcome to the March 9 2026 PCL Net. No
early checkins.
Net order is Daryl, Bob (NY), Carl, Wayne, Bob (OK),
and whoever else shows up.
I wonder how many missed the time change yesterday??
But, there's an extra hour of daylight in the evening.
I traveled to the ARVARF Hamfest last Saturday, but
there were severe storms in the region beforehand. I
took a very close lightning strike around 5am, and
nearly lost all of my stuff. Earlier today, I was
once again doing The Weather Watch Net, but the threat
here ended by mid-afternoon.
In the drive to the hamfest, we drove into a line of
storms with 40 mph winds, flooding rain, and intense
lightning. At least the weather was much better on the
way back home.
I didn't win anything, but had several eyeball QSO's,
and gave out licensing info to several hams who wanted
to get back into the hobby, or to upgrade their license.
I did eat good at a Waffle House on the way up (their
breakfast entry of 2 eggs, toast, hash browns, and
grilled chicken is fantastic), and ate 2 pulled pork
barbecue sandwiches with Doritos and a Sprite at the
hamfest.
One ham bought a large amount of prize tickets (which
pays for much of the hamfest expenses), and he won the
grand prize, and 4 other prizes. It puts those of us
who don't buy that many tickets at a disadvantage, but
it's the luck of the draw.
I'll join 2 other hams at a swapfest in New Boston, TX
(just west of Texarkana) on May 30...and we'll stop at
a great catfish restaurant in southwest Arkansas on the
way back. I'll join those same 2 hams at hamfests at
Shreveport and Mena in August and September, respectively
(with the same catfish stop on the way back)...and I'm so
excited about the trip to Huntsville in late August. A
fellow ham is buying my dinner there at the pre-hamfest
dinner on Friday evening.
In eating, you have 3 electrical principles...resistance
(I'm not eating that cake)...inductance (maybe one big
piece)...and capacitance (reached when you overeat!!).
Yet, if you eat the whole cake at once, you only had one
slice (hi hi). I've done that quite a bit lately, and my
pants must want me to work the low bands, or go south for
the winter, when the belt comes undone after a big meal.
So, I get caught with my pants down...it's too bad a good
looking YL isn't present...remember, dirty old hams need
love, too (hi hi).
I went to checkin to the 20 meter QCWA HF SSB Net Sunday,
and POTA was all over the place. When one of the stations
asked if we could use the frequency for our net, the other
ham would not relinquish it. So much for good amateur
practice. That, and with the very vulgar stuff on several
HF bands, discourages me from operating on it more.
I'm to do a license exam session on Saturday...and have
potentially 8 candidates...possibly more. I have to check
the test books to be sure that none of the books have
"removed questions". I'll set up an assembly line of sorts,
with the several VE's planning to help me out.
GE Bob (NY)...how was your week?? >>>
**
NS2B:
GE All!
It started out cool and wet, but has moved to warm and sunny!
I even got out today and cleaned up some of the trash in the
yard, and got a flower bed ready for planting. Of course I'll
need to wait a couple more months to get past frost season, but
things are lookin' good!
Got hamword on the 2nd guess again this week. They're obviously
making it too simple.
Not much else going on. BTU Daryl >>>

N5VLZ:
Bob, FB on the weatherm the yard clean up, the planting and
HamWord. When I noted that I have my original callsign back as
a vanity, another ham quipped "no one else wanted it" (hi hi).
GE Carl, how was your week?? >>>
**
KX4AC:
GE All.
Being in Arizona, we don't bother with the daylight savings thing,
so I am glad that I got my times adjusted and managed to make the
net. (In the desert, we don't need to save no stinkin daylight!).
It is the beautiful time of year here. Cool in the mornings and not
too hot late in the day, so it is the nice time of year to get
outside, even if just to pull weeds.
I have been playing HAMWORD, but the way it works seems to be that
I completely forget about it until the NET and hear Bob mention it
... then it's "oh, yea, gotta do HAMWORD."
Been working on some old Heathkit test gear that I built when I was
young. It seems I have outlived the electrolytics. I guess that
officially makes me an old man (hi hi).
Not much else going on. Back to net >>>
**
N5VLZ:
Carl, I wish they'd decide on one time, and leave it. FB on the weather,
and I have not yet had a chance to do HamWord. H.A.M. -- Haven't Any
Memory (hi hi).
One guy stopped by the QCWA table at the hamfest, and said we were the
group for the old f@r+$ club...then he said "wait!! that includes me!!"
(hi hi).
GE Bob (OK), you'll be after Wayne.
GE Wayne, how was your week?? >>>
**
KC2NJV:
Hi Daryl and all...
Week was nice, warmed up here on Long Island, which means most of the snow
mounds are melted...
Still building my node links, and having difficulty with one link PY2BIL...
just not working....
Other than that, not much....except real work.... ugh....
BTU Darryl and haev a great week...
**
N5VLZ:
Wayne, FB on the weather...there are still some isolated areas of snow, but
with all the heavy rain recently, they should be gone now.
GL on getting the node links working.
GE Bob (OK)...how was your week?? >>>
**
KF5TVG:
GE Daryl and all on the net
It has been a few weeks since I've been able to get here, so even tho I'm late...
I'm here!
We had major tornado activity here in Oklahoma this past week, with lives lost,
sadly. Fortunately for me and my family, the storms spun up after the front passed
thru our area here in the center of OK.
On the radio front, I've been trying to get contact with someone in DE on 60m with
FT8. That is the last state for WAS on that band for me.
Not much else to report, so back to you>>>
**
N5VLZ:
Bob (OK), Union City, Michigan, had an EF-3 tornado...and we had from penny to half
dollar size hail in the state today. Another risk of severe storms Tuesday through
Wednesday, then quiet for a few days.
Life and work (2 four letter words (hi hi))...gets in the way of our hobbies, but get
here when you can.
FB on nearly having WAS with FT8 -- GL on getting that.
That's it for round 1...back to the top for final comments.
Bob (NY), thanks for the use of the BBS...anything else?? >>>
**
NS2B:
nothing more here - everyone have a good week - 73 >>>
**
N5VLZ:
Thanks for being here, Bob...see you next time.
Carl, Anything else?? >>>
**
KX4AC:
Can't think of anything else right now. 73s to all and type at you next week >>>
**
KC2NJV:
73, Kc2njv
**
N5VLZ:
Take care, Carl...and 73 to you as well, Wayne...see you both next week.
Bob (OK), you get to wrap it up tonight...anything else?? >>>
**
KF5TVG:
Nope. Thanks to you and Bob (NY) for making this net happen. 73 and BTU >>>
**
N5VLZ:
Thanks for being here...have a good week.
That will do it for tonight's net. I'll post the scribe tomorrow after a medical
interview...where I will get a $100 gift card for Papa John's Pizza afterwards...
may order it with ham to be cannibalistic (hi hi).
Stay safe, healthy, weather aware, and radio-active. 73 and GN DE N5VLZ >>>
