 SPC 1200Z Day 1 Outlook
Day 1 Convective Outlook NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 1142
PM CST Wed Jan 16 2019
Valid 171200Z - 181200Z
...NO SEVERE THUNDERSTORM AREAS FORECAST...
...SUMMARY... Severe thunderstorms are not forecast across the
Lower 48 states through tonight.
...Synopsis... A progressive flow regime will continue over the
contiguous U.S. through tonight. A mid-level speed max will move
from northern CA into the Desert Southwest as an associated trough
amplifies over the Great Basin late. Scant buoyancy associated with
the western U.S. disturbance will lead to widely spaced convective
activity shifting east from parts of CA into the Great Basin.
Farther east, a weak disturbance over the Ozark Plateau early
this morning will shift eastward across the Mid-South during
the day. A couple of lightning flashes are possible with the
deeper convection.

 SPC 0700Z Day 2 Outlook
Day 2 Convective Outlook NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 1143
PM CST Wed Jan 16 2019
Valid 181200Z - 191200Z
...THERE IS A MARGINAL RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS MUCH OF
NORTHEASTERN TEXAS INTO THE ARKLATEX...
...SUMMARY... Isolated strong to severe storms are possible Friday
evening and overnight across northeast Texas and vicinity.
...Synopsis and Discussion... A shortwave trough will amplify
as it moves from CO and NM into the southern Plains, providing
large-scale lift as low pressure develops toward the Red River
during the day. Warm advection with a 50 kt southwesterly low-level
jet will provide lift by late afternoon across the ArkLaTex region,
with elevated thunderstorms likely. Additional storms will form
along the cold front overnight into eastern TX and western LA. Weak
instability with cold air aloft along with a marginally buoyant
boundary layer should result in mainly a marginal hail threat,
though locally gusty winds may occur should storms become more
surface based along the cold front.
...MAXIMUM RISK BY HAZARD... Tornado: <2% - None Wind: 5%
- Marginal Hail: 5% - Marginal
