:: BCMNET -> CB-BCMNET ::
:::::::::::::::::::::::::
The CB-BCMNET is a BBS network founded in 1998 with main focus on the
requirements in the citizen band. Since the call signs of the users are not
coordinated, they can exist multiple times. Therefore the CB-BCMNET protects
the call signs with an unique, specially for the CB BCMNET elaborated
security system.
The protection functionality of the CB-BCMNET prevents a network-wide abuse
or unintended use of the user call sign by third parties. Also user
settings such as name or MyBBS are network-wide protected. The protection
starts on the first login of the user and applies for 1 year. It is
automatically renewed with each further login.
The user and his sysop are responsible for the protection of the user in his
home BBS. The CB-BCMNET provides a finely graded security system to meet the
safety requirements.
The call sign administration is automatically managed by the mailbox
software at a central location and for free.
The CB-BCMNET is the only BBS network in the citizen band, which provides
a network-wide user protection and call management.
Login process
A CB-BCMNET mailbox which does not require a general password access
(pwonly 0) allows full user logins, if
a) the call sign is not already know in the network.
b) the call sign is known but the existing MyBBS entry is older than one
year, so it can be assumed that the call sign is no longer used.
c) this mailbox is the MyBBS of the user, he logged into his home BBS.
d) the user has a password in this BBS.
Otherwise the user is logged in as guest.
For mailboxes which require a general password access (pwonly 1), the user
must have a password set, otherwise he is also logged in as guest.
The files "msg/bnguest.*" and "msg/bnpwonly.*" are used to provide the
appropriate notes.
Guest login
If a guest send bulletin or user mails, they are set on hold and not
forwarded automatically. The mails are marked with "X-Info: Mail was sent
from a guest". Furthermore, the following restrictions apply:
- Commands who modify existing mails are not executed, e.g. erase, lifetime,
transfer
- Commands who modify user settings for S&F are not executed, e.g. mybbs, name
- Commands who modify local user settings only apply to the current login and
are not saved.
Mails which are sent from a guest are forwarded after inspected by the sysop
or when their hold time expires.
